Sven's Story

Hi, I'm Sven and I have joined the family in January 2006. I'm a Bernese Mountain Dog and I was born in Toowoomba, Australia, on 26 October 2006. My ancestors are from Switzerland where they call us Berner Sennenhund. But I have never been there. I was told they make you pull milk carts over there - that sounds like hard work! I'd rather go playing on the beach!

I'm now almost fully grown - at least in body - they say that I have still got the brains of a puppy and that I do lots of silly stuff. They say that I am very destructive and loud, but I disagree. I mean, did they really need those pineapple plants? And that rose bush? It was quite tricky to eat that bush with all the thorns and stuff... People should give my work more credit! And I've got such nice deep bark that it would be a shame to let it go to waste by not barking! I also see it as my job to bark at anyone and anything that walks past MY fence. No matter what time of the day or night. Sven's don't sleep!

But enough about that. There are also things my people like about me, despite all the whinging. I'm very nice and fluffy and I love getting cuddles. If someone would cuddle me all day, I wouldn't even dream about digging any holes. They also like going for walks with me which is great, because I love it too!

Anyway, enough about that. Now I'd like to show you some photos.

This photo is from the day they picked me up in Toowoomba. Look how tiny I was! It was quite a long drive back to Brisbane and I slept most of the way. The first few nights were a bit scary because I was suddenly all alone. But I got used to my new home fairly quick and took control of the backyard!










Here we're going to the Million Paws Walk in May 2006. It was great! There were hundreds of other dogs - so much to sniff!








And here I'm getting cuddles... I can never get enough of that, It's just soooooo nice!


















And this is me on the beach at the Gold Coast. The sand was great, but I'm not so sure about the waves yet... They are a bit scary and very wet! But it was great!














A few months ago I suddenly discovered a little person in the house... I'm not quite sure what to think about him yet, but he is quite interesting! I wish we could play together. But I was told that I have to wait a few more years for that.
